    The fossil fish described here was collected from the Yan' an Formation (Middle Jurassic) of Ningxia, and is referred to a new species, P. ningxiaensis, of the Genus Palaeoniscinotus. It resembles Palaeoniscinotus czekanowskii in many respects, but is characterized by its fewer fin—rays of the dorsal and anal fins, oblique enamelled striae on the scales, and fewer scales of the lateral line etc. Previously Palaeoniscinotus was known only from Siberia, Russia, this new discovery is of great significance to the study of the biostratigraphy in Liupanshan Basin.

    The present paper describes the histological aspects of two individual skeletons, assigned to species of Ankylosauridae (Ornithischia) and Titanosauridae (Saurichia) respecüvely, newly discovered from the Late Cretaceous Huiquanpu For-nation in northern Shanxi Province, and reports the results of comparison between the dinosaur's, the modem reptilian and avian limb bones. The observation on the thin sections of dinosaur's limbs, ribs and vertebras has revealed their microstructral and histomorphological features. Comparative histological study on the limb bones of the dinosaurs, the modern crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) and of the ostrich (Struthio camelus) was -carried out, and an image analysis on the microphotographs of the compact bone of these bone samples by using a computer system was also performed, and obtained the following results.

    Gazella blacki was named by Teilhard and Young (1931) on the basis of the specimens from the Pliocene of Hefeng, Jingle District, Shanxi Province. The syntypus comprise 9 horn cores, 25 more or less complete mandibles and many broken limb bones. In 1938, Teilhard de Chardin P. and Trassaert M. referred a great number of specimens from Yushe Basin, Shanxi Province to this species and proposed its amended diagnosis. Since then, G. blacki has been considered as one of the typical elements in the Late Pliocene mammalian fauna of Northern China. After restudying the Yushe's materials assigned to the genus Gazella, I think that the so—called species G. blacki is mixed. Besides the species itself, it may contain G. sinensis and other new gazelle forms. In fact, G. blacki represented by the specimens of Hefeng is a valid species, and it is useful for dating the beds bearing it Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the conception and to give a revised diagnosis of this species by observing the Hefeng's samples. It is the purpose of this paper.

    Mammalian fossils were collected from Baiyundong Cave (White Cloud Cave, 34 0 17' N, 117 0 18' E), Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province. The mammalian fauna in Baiyundong Cave is similar to that of Loc. I at Zhoukoudian. The mammal fossils found from the cave contain 9 species belonging to 9 genera, 7 families, 4 orders, as listed in Chinese text. Most of the species were also found at Loc. I of Tangshan (Xu et al., 1993; Mu et al., 1993). There are two mammalian faunas in Middle Pleistocene. One is the Chenjiawo fauna, and the other is the Peking Man fauna or the Zhoukoudian fauna. The Chenjiawo fauna is the temperate Quaternary fauna of the archaic type. Its geological period is correlated with Stages 14—29, ranging from 500 000 to 1 000 000 years ago. While the Peldng Man fauna is the temperate Quatemary fauna of the evolved type. Its geological period corresponds to Stages 6—13, ranging from 127 000 to 500 000 years ago (Table l). Cricetinus varians LSD is correlated with Event 9 in America and Europe and marks the first appearance of the Peking Man fauna in Zhoukoudian (Repenning, 1987; Xu, 1996). So the geological age of the faunas at both Baiyundong Cave and Loc. I at Tangshan corresponds to that of the Peking Man fauna.
