Introduction of Editor-in-Chief
Zhu Min, male, from Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province. He is a distinguished researcher (core member) at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He obtained his bachelor's degree in geology from Nanjing University in 1984, his master's degree from the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences in 1987, and his doctoral degree from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, CAS, in 1990, where he has remained employed to this day. From 1995 to 1997, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Natural History Museum of France and the Natural History Museum of Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. He has held positions including Chairman of the International Geological Correlation Program (IGCP 491), Voting Member of the Devonian Subcommittee of the International Commission on Stratigraphy, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Paleontology, and Director of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, CAS (from December 1999 to February 2008). Currently, he is the Director of the Key Laboratory of Vertebrate Evolution and Human Origins, CAS, and the Director of the Department of Paleontology and Stratigraphy, School of Earth and Planetary Sciences, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In 2021, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and in February 2025, as a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in the field of biology. He serves as an editorial board member or deputy editor-in-chief of many journals, and has been the deputy editor-in-chief of Vertebrata PalAsiatica since 2007. Since 2020, he has served as Editor-in-Chief of Vertebrata PalAsiatica.
His main research focuses on the evolutionary biology of ancient fish and vertebrates, making significant contributions to placing China's early vertebrate research at the forefront of international science. He is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the guest speaker of the Atte D Lecture of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, a selected leader in the National "Ten Thousand Talents Program," and has received numerous awards, including the China Youth May-Fourth Medal, the China Youth Science and Technology Award, the China Youth Scientist Award, the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award (as the first contributor), the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award for Scientific and Technological Progress, and the Excellent Teacher Award from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Zhu Li Yuehua Award).
