    Cover image: Youngolepis praecursor from the Xitun Formation (Lower Devonian) of Qujing, Yunnan, is a primitive dipnomorph lobe-finned fish. It is known from abundant fossils with exquisite preservation of delicate structures such as the braincase and dentition, perfect for studying with serial grinding technique. Chang Meemann’s work on the anatomy of Youngolepis, using serial grinding technique, has made outstanding contributions for our understanding of the diversification of sarcopterygians, and the fish-tetrapod transition. The cover image shows (from left to right): a wax model of the braincase of Youngolepis; drawings of serial grinding sections through the braincase; and a 3D life reconstruction of Youngolepis based on near-complete fossil specimens discovered in recent years.
